What is this blog about?

In this week’s blog, we look at the gateway stage for Level 6 Chartered Surveying degree apprentices undertaking the RICS APC End Point Assessment (EPA) to become MRICS.

All apprentices should read the RICS Apprenticeship Handbook, which provides a full overview of the RICS APC EPA, including the gateway stage.

How does the gateway stage fit within a degree apprenticeship?

Gateway is an essential stage in the Level 6 Chartered Surveying degree apprenticeship. The below flowchart shows where it falls within the overall process; after the apprentice has completed their 24 months’ structured training and their RICS-accredited degree.

Apprentices must pass through the gateway stage before they can submit their EPA (APC submission) to RICS and proceed to their online final assessment interview.

What is the gateway stage?

The gateway stage is the point at which you, your training provider and your employer confirm to RICS that you are ready to proceed to your EPA assessment.

You must meet the following the requirements to pass through gateway:

  • You have completed your degree

  • You have recorded 96 hours of CPD

  • You have recorded 24 months (400 days) in your structured training diary

  • You have achieved English and Maths at Level 2 (unless you were over 19 when you started your degree apprenticeship and your employer does not require you to achieve them)

When you pass through gateway, you will need to submit evidence of the above, including your degree certificate (or if not available, your transcript) and preview submission downloaded from the RICS Assessment Platform (confirming your CPD record and log book for your diary days).

Your gateway stage declaration form must be signed by the three above parties, either as a wet signature or a digitally verified signature (i.e., typed signatures that cannot be traced are not accepted).

All of the above must be uploaded by your training provider to the apprentice ACE360 platform to allow you to pass through gateway.

RICS will contact your training provider to confirm if an apprentice has passed through the gateway stage. Only then can the apprentice proceed to the EPA.

What if I am not sure about where I am in the EPA process?

Speak to your training provider, employer or RICS if you are uncertain about where you are at in your APC EPA journey. Alternatively, book a free 15 minute consultation call with Property Elite to discuss your next steps.
