What is today's blog about?
In this week’s blog, we recommend 5 things you should be doing this festive season if you are looking to submit your RICS APC final assessment submission this Spring.
You can also listen to our CPD podcast on Anchor for more free AssocRICS and RICS APC training and support.
If you don't have time to read the blog today, make sure you bookmark it for later and just watch our 1 minute summary below.
1. Use any quieter periods to focus on the first draft of your final assessment submission. Having this finished before Christmas will stand you in excellent stead to avoid rushing in the New Year. It also gives you time to reflect and analyse what you have written, after leaving it alone for a week or two. If you’re only just starting to draft your final assessment submission, don’t worry - even just getting down some bullet point notes on knowledge at level 1 and relevant examples at levels 2 and 3 will give you a head start.
2. Focus on your CPD record, particularly if you need to boost your hours to meet the RICS requirements for your final assessment submission. There are plenty of ways to gather free or paid CPD, including reading the Property Elite blog archives. Or, why not gather a group of colleagues and book an hour or two of our time online for some bespoke CPD before Christmas? If you are struggling for CPD ideas, just drop us a message using the chat box below and we will be happy to give you some suggestions! There are lots of interesting topics to focus your learning on, so choose something that is relevant to your competencies and that you find interesting.
3. Sit down with your counsellor and/or supervisor to discuss your progress and make an action plan for the Winter and Spring months. Time will fly after the festive break and you need to ensure that you are prepared and have your counsellor’s support to submit this session. Check if they have any holiday plans as this can often make the signing off process more difficult. You could also run parts of your draft APC submission past them now to facilitate the final sign off process and ensure that any issues are rectified in good time.
4. Network with friends and colleagues – working on existing relationships and making new connections will provide you with a support network to succeed within. There’s no need to be alone during your APC journey or wider career – why not check out your local RICS Matrics for festive events or other platforms, such as the CREation Property Network.
5. Enjoy yourself! Giving yourself a break over the festive week will enable you to take stock, relax and enjoy spending time with your friends and family. We all need some R&R, particularly during the busy and stressful run up to your APC. This might also be a good time to check out the support that LionHeart provide to RICS professionals and their families, particularly if you are struggling at what can be a very difficult time of year. You can read more on the LionHeart website.
